These iChatAV (Version 2) pages are coloured Green and have the iChat 2 icon on them that was in use at the time, so you know where you are. The icon differs from Version 1 by having the camera logo added.
These pages have sat here since 2008 with no update. In that time the AIM servers have been closed down (2017) and iChat has been superseded by Messages. That effectively make this a sort of Historical Document of how it worked.

This is the iChat 2 Outgoing Video Invite window. (well actually it is an iChat 4 pic which has the Effects Button but otherwise it looks the same. The fourth icon, to the right, is because I run a Add-On and this button controls it's pop out drawer).
In a Video Chat this is the next phase. The Video chat window shows your Preview and is labelled as such whether it is Outgoing from you or Incoming from a Buddy. It also has the "Waiting for..." Message. In this case I was calling my other computer and on both I happen to be Ralph Johns hence the wating for myself look to the picture.
As the Buddy hits the Accept button the message should change to "Starting". This will mean iChat has moved from doing the Visible part of the Invite to the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) part of the Invite which is behind the scenes (It is an internet handshake process to link to the two ends).
If the Chat fails there will be a summary message and more Details in the Connection Doctor.
The Connection Doctor is in the Video Menu. It can be opened during a Chat and will display the Frame Rates and Bitrates of you and your Buddy with a graphical representation of their feed.
If the chat fails that the bottom part of this picture to the left appears with more details on why it failed. If you make more attempts that fail then the area become scrollable with new messages being at the bottom and the view adjusted to the last Error Message (you have to Scroll Up for old ones).
The actual message in this error means the Buddy did not use the red Button to end the Chat (did not "bye" properly) so iChat reports the call was cut short by some other factor.
The Following Picture is the next in the Video Chat process
