This is the iChat 4 Status Messages Custom Edit point.

The Status Messages can be changed.

Choosing the Custom Available or Away option shown in the first picture in this series will give you access to type a New Message. The one is the picture will be an Away Message. It will change your Status to whichever Custom choice you select.

If you have chosen the Save Messages option in the Edit pane (Previous Picture) then this will also be saved otherwise it will only last while you have it showing or until iChat is Quit.

Changed. Typing the keystroke equivalents of Smileys will display as those text symbols at your end as you type it in iChat 4 - but will turn into Smileys at everyone else's end that can see you On-line and at your end as well now. See also page 11 Status Messages

Compatibility

Confirmed to work with Win/IE 5.5 and later (should work in 5.0, but not confirmed), Firefox 2, Safari 3, Opera 9, iCab 3.02 and later, Mac/IE 5, Netscape 6 and later

Old browsers (IE version 4 or earlier, Netscape 4 or earlier) should only see a text-based page which, while not the prettiest option, is still entirely usable.
