iChat Information Pages

Version 3

iChat Icon

These iChat 3 pages are coloured Orange and have the iChat 3 icon on them that was in use at the time, so you know where you are. The icon differs from Version 1 by having the camera logo added and from iChat 2 by having the Running Man removed.

iChat 3 Pictures

You are In:- iChat >> Versions >> iChat 3 >> iChat 3 Pictures Index >> iChat 3 firewall Index >>Visible Invites
1[3] 01 iChat Firewall tab Oct 2008

This is the iChat 3 or rather the Tiger (10.4.x) Firewall Tab in System Preferences > Sharing

The List has some Presets by default and new items added by the User get added at the bottom. The list has been scrolled in this Picture to show an Already Added item for iChat and Bonjour. Notice the defualt Preset fo iChat Bonjour is deselected a little further up the List.

Apple changed the Firewall at Tiger to be able to list the TCP and UDP ports an application used separately. Older Presets where brought forward from Panther (10.3.x) but tended to list only TCP ports and this was the case with what had been Rendezvous into Bonjour as it became called from Tiger onwards. As Bonjour uses more ports on UDP than it does TCP it made the preset next to useless so they are added in the iChat one.

There is no preset for the A/V or even the Text chatting port for iChat so you have to create one hence this set of pictures.

If you have an entry brought forward from Panther you will need the Edit Button (and then the third picture in this series). If you have no entry for the iChat A/V ports you will need the new Button (and will need the second picture as well).

Compatibility

Confirmed to work with Win/IE 5.5 and later (should work in 5.0, but not confirmed), Firefox 2, Safari 3, Opera 9, iCab 3.02 and later, Mac/IE 5, Netscape 6 and later

Old browsers (IE version 4 or earlier, Netscape 4 or earlier) should only see a text-based page which, while not the prettiest option, is still entirely usable.
